Out of the Box
Back in high school, a college recruiter came to my house to talk about my future.
When I told him I wanted to pursue a career in the arts, he looked me in the eye and said,
"You’ll never make it."
He told me to change my path.
I was crushed.
I was devastated.
And I was deeply, deeply confused... the idea of living without art didn’t make sense to me.
That moment planted a seed of doubt I’ve carried for years. And becoming a full-time artist? It hasn’t just been a career shift. It’s been a battle... a battle inside myself between what I was told I couldn’t be and what I know, deep down, I already am.
This painting... those little ships refusing to stay inside the box... feels like me claiming my space.
Not just outside the box. But outside the limits others put on me.
So yeah, most days I still feel like I’m figuring it out as I go.
But I’m also starting to see that the way I work, the way I think, the way I create... it’s not broken.
It’s just mine. And it’s enough.
This is an original 8" x 8" Oil painting on gallery-wrapped canvas with a painted edge in a black floater frame. Ready to hang with a wire hanger attached to the back.
