There is always that one in every family or group...
You know exactly who I am talking about

Life Is A Gamble
This is my parents' very first board game that they owned together.
The box is a mess...
They did not replace it...
They did not throw it away...
It still has its place...
It still does its job (sorta HA!)
It just needs a little help here and there.

For The Win
I went to see my Momma on Mother's Day
We had coffee
Gossiped about work and life events
And of course, played a game of Scrabble
She won
I told her that I let her win
because it was Mother's Day
HA

Sometimes you feel old, dusty, and even used and abused. . .
Then something comes along that gives you new life and brings a little glow back.

In A Flash
Anyone else remember this fun flash growing up?!?!?! Oh man! I remember being so excited to use these little flash bulbs when I was a kid... I don't remember any of the photos that actually came from using them though... good times!

Recumbent
OOOOOOOOoooooh! Look at that green! I painted my first camera in 2017 after being drawn to them over and over again in all the places I would see them, and I began to see them EVERYWHERE!
Friends and family collections...
Thrift stores...
Museums...
Random places...
They just seemed to come out of the woodwork.
I am drawn to the shiny metal components, worn-out and rusty metal components, the lenses and their reflections, as well as the purpose they once had. As I look back on where I was in my own life at the time it now all makes sense. After being a full-time mom for 21 years, three of my five children graduated from high school and started off on their own adventures... my other 2 were not too far behind. It seemed to be a time of self-reflection. Am I JUST a Mom? If all my kiddos leave, what is my purpose? I was painting the lens of the camera, staring right into my soul over and over again as I was trying to figure out my own life.
I have painted over 50 camera paintings to date, and I am still not sure I am done, as I am still trying to figure myself out.
Camera lovers will love this classic camera! This statement piece does not disappoint with its bold brushstrokes and fun color.

Ignited
This piece had to be big...
it had to be bold...
it had to speak volumes...
As a mother, it is the most heart-wrenching and helpless feeling when you see your baby struggle.
My sweet baby girl...
she was going through difficult times...
She was sad...
She was lonely...
She felt left out...
She did not know what to do with herself, and she wanted to drop out of high school.
With a lot of encouragement and support, she graduated from high school and decided to attend culinary school.
As she navigated through her new life, you could see the changes...
She ignited something in herself that everyone around her could feel.
The girl who was ready to give up on everything ended up graduating from culinary school at the very top of her class, and her life has flourished since!

Playful
Who played with these as a kid... does anyone know what these even are?!?!
HA!
I was reminded that they were in the Toy Story movies so they are still around in a sense. I do not remember owning these myself but I do remember pulling them out of the toybox in the stairs at my Grandmother's house.

Monkey On Your Back
At first glance, it’s all fun and color... bold, bright, and full of energy.
Look a little closer, and there’s a weight hiding in the chaos that keeps growing. This piece is about that feeling when everything should be great, but there’s still that one thing gnawing at the back of your mind.
Like a monkey on your back, you can’t quite shake... It’s the silent heaviness that lives behind the noise.

Mischief
My grandmother had a toybox in her stairs... while my brother and cousins would go for the trucks, tractors, and various other toys, I would go for the Barrel of Monkeys.
They were colorful, interesting, and had that mischievous grin that just made you wonder what they were up to.
Sometimes you gotta open that barrel and just let that crazy out HA!

Balancing Act
Some chapters in life get more attention than others…
Some you are continuing to add pages to.

Communication
Communication should be simple... clear, clean
But somehow, it gets messy.
Words get twisted... meaning slips through the cracks... and suddenly everything feels like it’s unraveling.
The beauty and frustration of trying to connect... and even with the best intentions, things can still fall apart.

Classic (NES)
This controller... this game system... it just gives me all the feels and is just simply THE BEST.
Confession time
I was totally 'that Mom'... the mom that called all video game time as "playing Nintendo"... no matter the console used or the games being played, I called it "Nintendo". I did not even realize that I was doing it until my then pre-teen son pointed it out to me.
A few weeks after he called me out, he showed me several memes about just that, HA! What can I say, the classic NES just has my heart

Keep It Cool
When my kiddos were younger, my oldest son wanted to host a game night.
With so much excitement when I agreed, he made invitations and handed them out, cleaned his room and living room, planned snacks, and got all his siblings on board to help.
When the night of the event came, he set out some board games and then completely focused on all his video game consoles/setups.
This is where I realized a disconnect in MY thoughts of 'game night' and HIS thoughts on what 'game night' looks like. Never once in my old school thinking did game night include video games... but that was at the forefront of his thinking.
I questioned it, and after understanding that he wanted to share his excitement, joy, and fun of these video games (and a bit of competition HA!) with his friends and family, I embraced it, and we had the best night!
The grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and siblings played board games AND video games and filled my house with the sound of laughter and fun that I so love.
